God is not some big cricket scorer in the sky. Jotting down all your wides, no-balls and dropped catches. There’s no point hoping you’ll score enough runs to make up for your lousy performance in the last innings. You won’t and you can’t.

And that’s what’s so amazing about grace. You don’t have to. Grace means that God picks you for his team, regardless. Kits you out in his colours. He lets you use his bat. Stands with you as you face each ball.
