Is your good, good enough? That’s what we tend to think, isn’t it? That Christianity means obeying the rules and being super good. Wrong.
Andy Stanley says it well: ‘God doesn’t want to make bad people good. He wants to keep free people, free.’ God first enters into relationship with us – while we are still sinners (read Ephesians 2). God forgives us, sets us free, puts his Holy Spirit in us and calls us his own. Being good – obeying Jesus, growing in holiness – that’s the response that flows from our love and gratitude to God.
‘But the fruit of the Spirit is goodness.’ (Galatians 5v22-23) Seek the Spirit and goodness will grow.
