Growing up I was often referred to as “Robin and Charmain’s daughter”. Sometimes this would irritate me because it felt like my identity was found in my parents, and I wanted to be my own person – I wanted to be known as Joy (stand-alone). Other times I loved it, when people heard whose child I was, they were friendlier, more welcoming – there were some perks that came with that.
You are a child of God. Your identity is found in Christ. Sometimes that’s tough; people treat you differently – they may not want to be your friend. The flip side is that being a child of God comes with more good than bad. Knowing who you are and who you belong to changes everything.
