Cape Town is a sea of colour, music and revelry during Tweede-Nuwe-Jaar celebrations. This tradition stems from the time when slavery was still common practice. Slaves got one day off a year. They celebrated this freedom hard on 2nd January but then went back to being slaves from 3rd January.
The devil, who is not your friend, wants you to believe (and so live) as if your freedom is temporary. “Christ has set us free to live a free life. So take your stand! Never again let anyone put a harness of slavery on you” (Galatians 5:1 – https://bit.ly/2A6E15O). Jesus paid a high price, once and for all, to rescue you from slavery of sin – for you to truly live.
