‘But if you do not forgive others their sins, your Father will not forgive your sins.’ (Matthew 6vs15)
Yoh, right between the eyes! Jesus had just taught the disciples the ‘Lord’s Prayer’ and he follows the prayer with this line. Jesus clearly felt like forgiveness was important.
How so? Well, the rest of the prayer which begins with ‘Our Father’ becomes meaningless if we are holding on to unforgiveness. Jesus was basically saying that if you, knowing how much God has forgiven you, are unwilling to extend it to others, then it shows you don’t truly understand or appreciate God’s forgiveness.
Is there someone in your life you are finding it really difficult to forgive? Ask God for the strength you need to be able to extend His grace to them as well.
