What if I really don’t feel like forgiving someone?
Jesus answered, ‘I tell you, not seven times, but seventy-seven times.’ (Matthew 18vs21-22)
A common mistake is that we view forgiveness as a feeling. Much like patience though, you will not often feel like forgiving. Jesus calls us to do it anyway. It is a choice and depending on the size of the thing we are forgiving, the more often we might have to make that choice.
If you bump into me in the hallway I will forgive you once and it’s done. But if you sexually abused someone I know, then that forgiveness will have to happen a whole lot more often. I will keep making the choice to forgive and then living as if I have forgiven you.
