How can we actually know God exists, let alone have some sort of cosmic relationship with a divine being?

I think that experience depends on how we define the word ‘God’.

For some ‘God’ stirs up a picture of a cranky old man yelling at kids to get off his lawn. Others may define God as an abusive jerk.

An author named Stephen Garrett called God “the great mystery”. God is not contained in our definitions of him. One of the most common names for God in scripture is simply “I am” (Exodus 3:14). There is such mystery even in that simple phrase.
