How do you feel about corruption? Hopeless, angry, betrayed, couldn’t really care? The Old Testament prophet Micah tells us how God feels about it:

‘Do you expect me to overlook obscene wealth you’ve piled up by cheating and fraud? Do you think I’ll tolerate shady deals and shifty scheming? I’m tired of the violent rich bullying their way with bluffs and lies. I’m fed up. Beginning now, you’re finished. You’ll pay for your sins down to your last cent.’ (Micah 6v11-13 The Message)

Harsh words! The message is clear: God hates dishonesty and corruption.

You can do something about it. This week, Micah Challenge SA are shining a light on corruption. If you want to join them like this FB page http://on.fb.me/1ejJl0r and make your voice heard!

Are you under a lot of pressure right now? Maybe you’re pushing yourself hard to get good marks or make the top team. Maybe the pressure comes from the high expectations of your parents or the need to be like your friends.

Life with God doesn’t mean we won’t come under crazy pressure sometimes. The apostle Paul was sometimes stretched to breaking point (2 Corinthians 4v7-9). He even nearly gave up the will to live!

What kept Paul going? – knowing that even though physically, mentally and emotionally he was easily crushed, he had the life of God inside him – a hidden treasure. How can you draw strength from that same treasure inside you today?

Sometimes I think I’m my own worst enemy – I keep comparing the worst I know about myself with the best I see in my friends. My other, spiritual, enemy also loves to remind me of my failures – rubbing them in. It’s so tempting to listen to them and despair of myself.

Jesus, remind me of the truth about me – yes, I am a broken and sinful person, but also someone who is supremely loved and blessed by you. Help me live in the richness of that blessing. Help me catch the lies about me I keep believing.

I suspect my friends are fighting their own battles inside too. Help me show your grace to them.

My internet connection worked hard today. A whole bunch of new series downloaded. I can’t wait to get started -I need to watch a ton this weekend to catch up to where everyone else is.

Just don’t ask me to count up all the hours I’m going to spend watching all those episodes. And please don’t ask what happened to all the other things I used to enjoy – hanging out with my family, connecting with God, getting some exercise…

Those shows are so good – it’s so tempting to keep watching. God, give me wisdom to know when it’s too much. Give me the self-control I need to unplug and find life in other things.
