Are you crazy? ‘If we are out of our mind, it is for the sake of God; if we are in our right mind, it is for you.’ [2 Corinthians 5.13] I really like that scripture because it reminds me that when the world starts thinking I am mad for choosing to follow Jesus, then I am probably on the right track.

It is followed by this: ‘For Christ’s love compels us’ which really captures the heart of Jesus. In this context ‘compels’ means: ‘This thing is so incredible, I cannot avoid sharing it!’

When we truly start to understand everything Jesus has done for us, this will become our natural response. I can’t not Love!

How big was your last prayer? Maybe you asked God for nice weather and it happened to be a sunny day. Did that revolutionise your life? Or did you barely notice? What if you asked God to affect the crime rate in your area and He dramatically reduced it?

Ephesians 3v20 describes God as being able to ‘do immeasurably more than all we ask or imagine, according to His power that is at work within us.’ Maybe the problem is that we are not asking or imagining big enough? With that in mind what is a bigger prayer you are brave enough to pray?

The band R.E.M. has a song called ‘Living Well is the Best Revenge’ which resonates well with me – especially when someone has something against me.

In Matthew 5v23-24, Jesus radically tells us to be the one to go and be the peace maker. In Romans 12v18 Paul urges us to ‘live at peace with everyone – as far as it is possible.’

When something bad happens the temptation is to respond badly, but the Bible, like R.E.M., calls us to live well. Acting out love, grace and mercy is the best response we can give as it contains the power of actually changing the person who has wronged us. Go for it!

I’m not sure God has a big Kingdom plan in place aimed at securing you a girl/boy-friend. The plan God told us about is this: ‘Seek first His Kingdom and His righteousness, and all these things will be given to you as well.’ (Matthew 6v33) My take on it is that God is more interested in you being the right person.

So don’t wait until you are in a relationship to start learning how to be in relationship. Grow strong friendships and trust that as you become ‘the one’ someone at the right time might take notice. And if not, then still you would have taken hold of the most important thing.
