Celebrating the New Year has a way of helping us look back on the past year and think about the year to come.

As you look back remember
“as far as the east is from the west, so far has he removed our transgressions from us”.
(Psalm 103:12 – http://bit.ly/2QkS26F)

As you look forward remember
“For I am convinced that neither death nor life, neither angels nor demons, neither the present nor the future, nor any powers, neither height nor depth, nor anything else in all creation, will be able to separate us from the love of God that is in Christ Jesus our Lord”
(Romans 8:38,39 – http://bit.ly/2Qji2Q2).

It’s almost 2019!

“Make hay while the sun shinesthat’s smart; go fishing during harvestthat’s stupid” (Proverbs 10:5 – http://bit.ly/2QnnpxF).
This is a bit of a Yoda verse and filled with farming lingo, but it expresses a simple truth.

There is a time to play XBOX and a time to play outside. There is a time to sleep late and a time to get up early. There is a time to watch TV and a time to talk with family. There is a time to go to church and a time to take church to the world.

You got to love the character Shuri from Black Panther.

There are a lot of serious things going on in the world, way too many Thanos’ and you need to not take evil lightly, but you also need to laugh along the way.

The Psalmist reminds us that “the one who rules in heaven laughs”.
(Psalm 2:4 – http://bit.ly/2QghYAH)
Ruling the Universe is serious stuff, but God is also about laughter, and fun and awesome times as you live this beautiful created life.

Go on, prank a friend (in the most loving way possible).

Are these words your words as you leave the celebrations of Christmas behind?

You’re in my blood, my veins/In every word I pray/You gave it all for me/I’ll give it all for You /Oh, I’m in love with You/Overwhelmed by You/And if the world is listenin’/This is my confession/You are my obsession
(from 2:26 in the song)

“It is no longer I who live, but Christ lives in me” (Galatians 2:20a – http://bit.ly/2QobcbX).
