You’ve seen all the ‘Keep Calm and…’ posters, right? How about ‘Keep Calm and Be Gentle’? Gentleness isn’t being lame, weak or pathetic. Get that idea out of your head. Gentleness is strength under control – the power of God’s Spirit in you allowing you to be kind – tender – considerate.

And gentleness – when you could choose rather to be harsh, mocking or impatient – can open people’s hearts to Jesus in incredible ways. How gentle are you with your mom? Your kid brother? Your classmates? You have God in you and you have nothing to prove. Keep Calm and Be Gentle.

‘And the fruit of the Spirit is gentleness.’ (Galatians 5v22-23 http://bit.ly/18nPLLI)

Is your good, good enough? That’s what we tend to think, isn’t it? That Christianity means obeying the rules and being super good. Wrong.

Andy Stanley says it well: ‘God doesn’t want to make bad people good. He wants to keep free people, free.’ God first enters into relationship with us – while we are still sinners (read Ephesians 2). GOd forgives us, sets us free, puts his Holy Spirit in us and calls us his own. Being good – obeying Jesus, growing in holiness – that’s the response that flows from our love and gratitude to God.

‘But the fruit of the Spirit is goodness.’ (Galatians 5v22-23) Seek the Spirit and goodness will grow.

What are you waiting for? Your parents’ permission? A boyfriend/girlfriend? To finish school? To earn your own money? To get invited to that party or to make that team? To finish exams and go on holiday? To get married and have sex?

Whatever you’re waiting for, know this: God is never late. He’s always right on time. Pray today that He would help you to rest quietly in Him. His plans and His timing are spot on. He hasn’t forgotten about you, and if He’s making you wait, there’s a really good reason.

I’ll be praying for you as you wait patiently.
‘But the fruit of the Spirit is … patience.’ (Galatians 5v22 http://bit.ly/18nPLLI )

It’s impossible to get on with everyone, right? There are 7 billion people on the planet. 7 billion different temperaments and passions, strengths and weaknesses, and when life has us bumping into others it can get kind of unpleasant.
But Paul tells us, ‘If it is possible, as far as it depends on you, live at peace with everyone.’ (Romans 12v18)
Here’s a challenge: pray that in every conversation or casual greeting today, you’ll be the sweet smell of Jesus – that your humility and kindness would fill the room and create peace.
