Eminem recently released ‘Headlights’ – an apology to his mom, partly for a devastating song he’d written about her before. He has lots to complain and be angry about but still he says:

‘But regardless I don’t hate you ’cause, Ma / You’re still beautiful to me, ’cause you’re my mom’

Recognising how someone got hurt by words spoken; owning up to mistakes; being willing to let go and forgive; putting people and love first… Sounds a bit like grace in action to me even in the middle of all the messed-up stuff and contradictions of (his) life.

What a mystery grace is!

How might God be working grace into the mess and brokenness of your life?

‘But he gives more grace. Therefore it says, ‘God opposes the proud, but gives grace to the humble.’ James 4v6

Macklemore’s songs have got hundreds of millions of views on YouTube. They’re not for everyone but I think people relate to his songs partly cos they express the pain and frustration of trying to figure out life in a messed-up world. Here’s a clip from ‘Inhale Deep’:

‘It’s been so long since I really truly felt / What it’s like to live without substances to help / Massive struggle that’s natural to one’s health / With addiction in my blood / I play the cards I was dealt’

So many substances and other things promise to ease the pain, confusion and heartache of life without God. Is there something trying to seduce you? What would it take to give your pain and frustration to God instead?

Anger Digging Into You?

Must I forgive someone even if they keep on hurting me?

‘Jesus said, ‘Father, forgive them, for they do not know what they are doing.’ (Luke 23vs34)

No-one had asked Jesus for forgiveness. In fact, His enemies are in the midst of killing Him in one of the most inhumane ways known to man. But He calls out forgiveness for them anyways.

My friend Rob had this picture of two hooks joined by some fishing gut. One hook in you and one in the person who wronged you. Forgiveness is like taking the hook out of yourself and handing it to God. God will still deal with the other person but you are refusing to be hurt any more by the wrong that has been done.

Are there hooks hurting you? Anyone you need to release right now?

Milo April – Encouragement Mix

Hey WordSpacers, Milo April here. I’m a Christian Hip Hop DJ and you might have heard my previous mix. This time I’ve got something a bit different…

I know many young people who struggle with the issues that life throws at them, so I decided to put together an exclusive mix with songs that are filled with encouragement. If you struggle with self-acceptance, dealing with growing up without a father, struggling to get over your guilt with sin and basically everything else in between then here’s a mix for you. I pray that it encourages you, because that is the point of it.

Here’s the link to it:
