Vers is a Kree warrior, or so she thinks, as the Kree desperately try to destroy the Skrulls. Throughout the movie she accidentally discovers her true identity and not what the Kree had told her. When she believed the lie, Vers was in bondage, but when she discovered her true identity she was liberated and free.

In the Bible, Satan gets described as a liar a few times. Because of this it’s so important to remember who Jesus calls us. Satan tries to bind us up in chains BUT Jesus is our saviour and He sets us free.

You are a new creation!

The Road through Calvary brings Truth and Freedom

The Road through Calvary brings Truth and Freedom

Who do you enjoy being with the most?
Those who know and accept the real you, failures and all?
Or those you have to pretend around?

To be honest, I enjoy being around the ones who know the real me, because pretending is an exhausting waste of your life. It’s living a lie.

Now imagine this, the God who knows us, the real us, failures and all, still chose to send Jesus to die for us. Calvary wasn’t about perfect people, but about a perfect God and His love for imperfect us! This love (truth) set us free.

You are free! That is good news! We don’t need to be slaves to evil, addiction, money etc. but we have freedom. Guvna B sings about this freedom, how we can choose to do what we want to do and how we only have one life, so we must live it well.

We are free and we have the freedom to choose how to live. 1 Peter 2:16-17 helps us understand how living in freedom might look, loving God and loving people. How will freedom in God be something that goes throughout your life?

Do you struggle with hating yourself or feeling lonely or hopeless? Here’s more good stuff from Isaiah’s prophecy about Jesus in chapter 9:

‘For as in the day of Midian’s defeat, you have shattered the yoke that burdens them, the bar across their shoulders, the rod of their oppressor.’ (Isaiah 9v4)

God hates it when we carry things that weigh us down. What does God do about it? He sends Jesus who is the chief burden-bearer:

‘Are you weary and weighed down by something? Come to me and I will give you rest’ (Matthew 11v28-30).

Let the carols you sing this Christmas be freedom-songs. Whose burdens could you help carry by being a friend these holidays?
