Heard about the lady faking her death and claiming life insurance? Politicians giving freebies the night before elections? The government bodyguard with a hidden criminal record? Or the one about the 29-year- old who paid someone to steal and burn her car for insurance money – and got caught?

‘Don’t be misled: No one makes a fool of God. What a person plants, he will harvest. The person who plants selfishness, ignoring the needs of others – ignoring God! – harvests a crop of weeds But the one who plants in response to God, letting God’s Spirit do the growth work in him, harvests a crop of real life, eternal life.’ Galatians 6:7-8 (

That’s a tough warning … and a great promise. Listen up!

Growing Joy

People sometimes see Christians as cheesy fakes with perma-grins. As in, ‘Jesus wants me for a sunbeam…’ Even if my folks are getting divorced or my brother has cancer or my girlfriend cheated.

Joy is supposed to happen to us when we become Christians (Galatians 5v22). Does that mean I have to be happy all the time?

I’m happy when life goes my way. Like, we win the game. The shoes are on sale. Happy!
I’m joyful when – good times or bad – I can thank God for being perfect in love, power and wisdom, and for working all things together for my good and his glory.

Jesus never promised non-stop happiness. But he offers deep, abiding, supernatural joy. Talk to him about it today?
