Isaiah wrote an amazing prophecy about Jesus in chapter 9 of his book. Here’s the next bit:

‘You have enlarged the nation and increased their joy; they rejoice before you as people rejoice at the harvest, as men rejoice when dividing the plunder’ (Isaiah 9v3)

‘Enlarging the nation’ was what God promised Abraham centuries before – and by Isaiah’s time God had done that. Seeing God at work keeping his promises can bring great joy and real hope.

Sending Jesus to us the first time – and the second – is God’s great promise to us. Jesus is God’s great ‘YES!’ to us.

Let each carol you sing and present you give this Christmas be a sign and reminder that God keeps his promise, God is trustworthy and God is FOR us.

God And Gomer

Have you ever been cheated on? It really hurts deep down right? You feel betrayed, angry, sad…

In the Old Testament God tells Hosea to marry a woman who was known for sleeping around (Hosea 1v2). God knew Gomer would cheat on Hosea sooner or later and that it would hurt – but God wanted to show the Israelites that their sin was wrecking their relationship with God too.

When we choose to love other things in our lives more than God it’s kinda like we’re cheating on God too. What does it tell you about how much God loves you that he always stays faithful to you, no matter how unfaithful you’ve been?
