Jesus – King on a Cross

‘One of the criminals hanging alongside cursed him: Some Messiah you are! Save yourself! Save us! But the other one made him shut up: Have you no fear of God? You’re getting the same as him. We deserve this, but not him – he did nothing to deserve this.’ (Luke 23v39-41)

The day Jesus died, two men were executed alongside him. Only one of them truly understood that Jesus was an innocent man dying an undeserved death. Even though Jesus was dying an undignified death next to him, he called him King.

Knowing who Jesus really is might be the most important thing anyone can discover. Who is He to you?

God Sees Your Heart

I remember watching a sci-fi movie where alien beings could read each other’s thoughts and communicate without speaking. I was terrified! What if people could see the ungodly things that sometimes go through my mind: the anger, the pride, the lust, the greed?

The woman at the well in John 4 must have been astounded when a complete stranger described her history of failed intimate relationships. Awkward moment of note.

Your secrets aren’t secret to God. He loves you, the whole you, the broken you. His body was broken so you could be made whole. Jesus invites us out of the things that tie us up, and into the joy of living free and openly with Him. Will you accept the invitation?

Eyes on the Unseen

How are you feeling as you get ready for today? Are you thinking of the things you’re struggling with: conflicts you’re caught in, the test you haven’t really studied for, the habits you’re definitely going to avoid today? Or are you focusing on something better?

Someone once said we tend to move towards the things our eyes are focused on. Is that true for you? What if you fixed your eyes on what is unseen, the hope to which Jesus has called you, the fearfully and wonderfully made person you are, and on Jesus himself who is God’s great YES to us?

Great verse on that in Ephesians 1v18: http://bit.ly/17oWMw0

Do you sometimes find yourself doing things just to get accepted by the people around you – things you’re later a bit ashamed of? Ever wondered why?

Imagine these three things were really real for you: 1) you are someone whom Jesus chooses to live inside by his Spirit 2) Jesus living inside you makes you part of God’s Kingdom 3) no matter how badly things are going around you, God’s Kingdom is not in trouble. So ultimately YOU’RE not in trouble either.

Next time you’re tempted to do something to win the approval of people around you – ask the Spirit to remind you who you really are. It might make all the difference
